Vuelta Southsea a Dorking

Distance:
day 1:113km in 04.05
day 2:114km in 04.10

Weather:
day 1:sunny,very strong headwind.
day 2:sunny spells,cooler slight! tailwind.

Terrain:
day 1:rolling with the killer climb at Bedham.
day 2:undulating on mucky D roads.

Highlight of the trip:sailing from Hayling Island to Southsea on the Ferry!

Riders:
Raymond: smooth, confident and wily: taking the sprint for the Dorking sign after sucking wheel for 110km!!
Jane: sole A group laydee
Mark: Becoming too strong for the B group, only the lure of extended lunch stops holds him back.

Mechanicals: jumping gears

Crashes: Sabin stalled and keeled over on the 'wall' near Newdigate.

Chance meetings: the B group for lunches?

Palabras del dia: I can smell the sea!

Idiot of the day: Raymond forgot his civvy shoes but got a snazzy pair of rock climbing booties from Millets, no one took jackets to fend off the chilly sea breeze.

Thanks to everyone involved for a great weekend, especially Geoff for his fantastic organisation and Patrick for being a human gps.

stop press....Mark is in imminent danger of being thrown out of the B group. He has attacked too many times and given the game away:-).... he is too fit!

"protected rider"! - Chris was beginning to mistake you for a yak-bob!

As for the sole lady, her little legs hurt! After hanging on to the menfolk all day she got cramp in the back of her thigh, only for one pedal turn, but that was all it took to lose contact on the wind-up for the ferry.
Fortunately electrolyte balance was restored on the crossing and she lived to hang on another day. Indeed they could not shake her off on the return trip and she finished well up in the grupetto - hurrah!

Geoff was saying tonight that Mark is very strong. But, he also says that he and Kay caught and dropped Mark on Bexley(sp)Hill on the run in to Lurgashall.

Hahahahahaha!! Geoff passed me on the descent as he is better at going down than I am and I was nursing a loose, rattling rear mudguard down the potholed strewn descent. Eric and Kaye tok the summit of the climb before me as they were the only two riders I couldn't get back across to after my 'comfort stop'.
I kicked butt and don't let anyone tell you any different!!! Just check the Marky sized footprints on their shorts!!!!

Geoff is a very fast descender,so I suspect he got his ups and downs a little confused.

Though everyone was amazed that Gary had got back on on the descent!

akm-did you contest the sprint?

No, I was too tired after kicking butt on the climb to contest the sprint;-)
