Ibiza training camp

This year we did much more off-road as we’re now learning lots of routes and rights of way. Revelation of the week was riding with the Kandani club ride on Wednesday at 3.30. This was a fast paced training ride over pistas (what we’d call rough fireroads) and singletrack descents and climbs. They regroup after fast sections usually with the shout ‘falta gente’ roughly translated as people missing) The ride finished with a 40kph line out returning through the lanes. There is also a road ride on Tuesdays.

The next day we rode with Werner on a plano (flat) ride para las piernas(for the legs ie a recovery ride) We used this ride to practise some technical rock riding. Ibiza has a lot of rock pushed through the surface of trails; this is similar to slick rock in Moab. But, instead of a huge expanse, they are discrete islands 1 – 2 metres across usually with drop-offs into loose marbles, sand or a wheel size gap between them. Werner is a master of this stuff. Junita is willing estudiante.

The week couldn’t go by without nailing a few road climbs. Col de Cal Sant Vicent and col de Portinatx which we used for intervals.

So round 380km of good steady riding 'en las piernas'

The Pit Babe intensive training camp starts in just under two weeks - specfically addressing key areas such as driving on the wrong side of the road and salad preparation.

I nearly got squashed today pulling onto the wrong side of the road. The guy swerved a bit and I shouted oops, sorry!

I think it means I need to move to Ibiza for good. Then, I will never fear of making that mistake ever again:-)
